Economic Empowerment

Every society places its hope for a better future on its young in the belief that where it has failed the future generations will rectify. Our hope for peaceful and cohesive societies, reduced poverty, hunger and disease lies with the children and young people. It is therefore the responsibility of the current generation to prepare children and address economic, social, cultural and political impediments that hinder the realization of a better future.

In Kenya, despite strides towards economic development, a significant segment of the population continues to face challenges in attaining financial stability and sustainable livelihoods, particularly among the youth and women. Current data and research reveal a pressing need for focused initiatives that promote economic empowerment in these demographic groups.

  • Youth Unemployment:The youth bulge in Kenya, with approximately 75% of the population under 35 years old, presents a paradoxical situation where a substantial portion of this demographic group remains unemployed or underemployed. Limited job opportunities, inadequate skills training, and a lack of access to capital hinder the youth from harnessing their full potential and contributing meaningfully to the economy.
  • Gender Disparities: Despite progressive policies and efforts to promote gender equality, women in Kenya continue to face systemic barriers that restrict their economic empowerment. Limited access to education, land ownership, financial services, and entrepreneurial opportunities constrain women from realizing their economic aspirations and participating fully in the workforce.
  • Inadequate Support Systems:The existing support systems for youth and women entrepreneurs in Kenya are often fragmented, under-resourced, and unable to effectively meet the diverse needs of these marginalized groups. Insufficient mentorship, training programs, access to markets, and financial resources further impede their ability to thrive and succeed in competitive economic landscapes.
  • Poverty and Vulnerability: Youth and women in Kenya are disproportionately affected by poverty and vulnerability, perpetuating cycles of economic instability and social marginalization. Without sustainable means of income generation and economic independence, these groups remain at risk of exploitation, exclusion, and limited socio-economic mobility
